I actually paid more to Palisadoes bikers
THE EDITOR, Sir:
The story about persons paying US$500 to bikers to get them to the airport on New Year's Day when the roadway was blocked by partygoers, needs to be updated. People like me actually paid more than the US$500 that has been in the public sphere.
I actually paid US$600 to get to the airport on that day. This is in addition to the J$8,000 I paid a taxi driver to take me to the airport from May Pen, Clarendon.
I had three pieces of large luggage plus a small hand travel case.
I had to hire three bikers to get me to the airport. One carried me and the hand suitcase and the others carried the other suitcases.
The one with me said I had to pay him US$400 and the other two took US$100 each.
So, I don't want anyone to dress down the figure and let it look nice. It cost me a lot. I couldn't miss another day at work because I was already behind by a day. I'm sure somebody else would have got my job if I were absent another day. When I tell people these things, they laugh as if I'm joking.
Somebody needs to go to their yard and plant cotton for this.
If you cut me, I wouldn't bleed because of how upset I am.
A co-worker from Italy took a picture of The Gleaner story on the matter and asked me if that was the traffic I was talking about. We in Jamaica are the laughing stock of the world.
