Henry on track with trains

Published:Friday | February 2, 2018 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Mike Henry is not off the rails, as The Gleaner's editorial of February 1, 2018. He is a wise old sage, pay attention. His perception that there should be an international airport at Vernamfield is necessary for Jamaica's future.

Take, for example, the blockage of the Palisadoes airport road a few weeks ago. A railway service from Vernamfield would create extraordinary benefits. A railway service to Appleton Estate could transport sugar cane and would be of great benefit if Frome Sugar Factory fails. It could also take sugar cane from Monymusk, if necessary.

A railway will provide competition for the toll roads. If ever Jamaica gets the transhipment port, a railway will be necessary.

Right on, Mr Henry. Persevere!
