Expanding rail service a positive idea

Published:Friday | February 9, 2018 | 12:00 AM

I strongly support Mike Henry's stance expressed in his guest column to The Sunday Gleaner of February 4, 2018 ('Full steam ahead with trains'). I do not agree that Mr Henry suffers from a "crisis of confidence and credibility", as the Gleaner editorial said a few days before.

Rather, I concur with the unwillingness to believe that as a people, we cannot achieve the things that are so important and vital to our development.

Now, we hear that Appleton and J. Wray & Nephew Ltd are very interested in the use of rail to expand their development in excursions to visit their rum estate located at Siloah.

If we could get the rail services in operation again, it would benefit the poor and schoolchildren, as well as help expand the tourist industry.
