Stay beyond that line
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I often wondered how criminals sleep at night. My thinking was that as human beings they must suffer terribly when they think of the harm they cause to others. But I have started to believe that criminals are really not very different from the rest of us.
The difference is that they went over a line that the rest of us have not crossed. I think that the first time they did it was perhaps the worst. But like everything in life, it got easier for them over time. My advice to those who have not yet stepped over that line is to do all you can to stay on the straight and narrow. The harder it is for you to commit a crime with a clear conscience, the better.
