The important of succession planning

It is sad that in some organisations, individuals are being promoted to positions of responsibility because of tenure and not because they are job-fit. In those organisations, if there had been careful succession planning, selecting the right person for the right job would be an easy task.
Employment is no longer for a lifetime. Therefore, in the 21st century, when individuals have access to employment globally, many key positions, some of which require specific technical expertise and experience, will become vacant. Succession planning will ensure that these key positions can be filled by competent individuals with the requisite skill set.
