Limit attendees to in-camera trials
THE EDITOR, Sir:
It is obvious that the Government of Jamaica and the security forces are powerless in dealing with crime and violence.
I would recommend to the Government, if it truly wants to bring back law and order, that it take extraordinary measures to do so, particularly in relation to witness testimony in open court. It's not practical for citizens to give testimony without tragic reprisal, which is why many persons opt to not testify and stay alive.
Because of witness vulnerabilities with Jamaica being such a small country, witnesses should be allowed to give testimony, in camera, to be viewed only by the judge and both attorneys, and perhaps the court reporter.
