Who made Lipton Matthews pregnancy police?
THE EDITOR, Sir:
When was Lipton Matthews, prolific writer of diatribe against the pregnant Krystal Tomlinson, appointed the arbiter of morality and decency in Jamaica? The only illegitimate thing in this discussion is Lipton's arguments.
Let us address the flaws in the points presented.
As stated by Mr Matthews, The Gleaner is "by far the most respected newspaper in the region", but what he also seemed to forget is that The Gleaner, like other news outlets, oftentimes features public figures. Krystal Tomlinson is a public figure. Although we have seen Ms Tomlinson being referred to as Beenie Man's babymadda, we must not forget that she is her own human being.
And if we are to question anybody's moral character, it is Mr Matthews'. Referring to children as illegitimate is highly disrespectful.
Third, what does this young woman's choosing to have a child with a man with whom she is in a relationship have to do with her moral character?
It is full time we move away from these antiquated views that continue to dictate how, and with whom, a woman should live her life.
