A tad too brutal on Ruel Reid
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I read with dismay the letter titled 'Ruel Reid's arrogance', published on Thursday, July 12, 2018, in The Gleaner. That letter, in my opinion, was very unfair and biased.
Senator Reid is a humble man from humble origins who had no expectations when he answered the call to serve his country as minister of education, youth and education in March 2016. The gentleman came from the belly of the Jamaica Teachers' Association and rose through the ranks to become president.
The minister is not arrogant or narcissistic, as letter writer A'Lerroy Brown has posited.
All of this administration's ministries and agencies host regular press briefings, so the information on their policies and initiatives is communicated quite effectively through the various media entities. Senator Reid has made no declaration that social media should be accepted as the sole conduit for news reports.
