Water proposal hatched in madness

Published:Wednesday | July 18, 2018 | 12:00 AM

The recent disclosure of a rather sketchy proposal made by the PNP caretaker for West Rural St Andrew, Jennifer Housen, to provide piped water to the residents of Mount Zion, Red Hills, has left me with many unanswered questions.

These questions, however, I will reserve for now, because the reality of the situation is that Ms Housen must have had a moment of lapse in her judgement. The proposal would see one resident allowing others to connect to their main water connection with National Water Commission (NWC).

I'm all for prosperity and Jamaicans having access to necessary basic amenities, but, apart from Wi-Fi, I'm pretty sure no one is comfortable with this kind of leaching, or should I say 'tapping'.

This is not a Robin Hood state, or is it? Is this a revelation of how the PNP, for years, has enacted its deep socialist beliefs? What if the letter was not leaked on social media? Is this another political stunt gone wrong?
