Tavern eyesore near Ward Theatre

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I am not sure if anyone has ever taken notice, but how can you have Wray's Tavern on King Street next to the Ward Theatre? Well, stated better, how can we have this very unattractive building, one with very little architectural creativity and input, which was built many decades after, next to the Ward Theatre?

It just does not fit. In fact, to the common man, it really exemplifies just how much we value our built-heritage environment over the decades!

I have travelled the world. Jamaica's older buildings are the most attractive I have seen - much nicer than the ones in beautiful Bermuda. However, deliberate long-term effort must be undertaken to identify, inspect, rehabilitate and sustain them.
