Harbour View market an eyesore, nuisance

Published:Saturday | October 13, 2018 | 12:12 AM

Letters and phone calls to Mayor Delroy Williams before and after the Sunday Gleaner article of August 12, 2018, regarding illegal vending in Harbour View and its consequences have produced no positive results.

The new illegal market on Fort Nugent Drive, which opened last year in front of people's houses and the side door of Shoppers Fair supermarket, is still in business, causing traffic problems from double parking on this narrow main street and depriving pedestrians of the sidewalk.

We were informed, via the RJR news programme on October 11, 2018, that schoolboys are robbing vendors and others in broad daylight in Harbour View. This new illegal market opens at approximately 4 p.m. on weekdays and closes after 11 p.m., and on Saturdays and Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sometimes it is closed on Thursdays.

Mayor Williams, if the Government cares about its citizens, please have this truck with its stalls and chairs, jerk vendors, tarpaulin carts, etc., removed immediately and give us back our sidewalk.
