Stamp out squatter plague
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I will cite a glaring example of the failure of our lawmakers. This has to do with squatter settlement and the ghettoisation of communities.. At the municipal level, permits are required to erect permanent buildings, but none are required for temporary buildings.
Most times, temporary construction morphs into permanent structures. The Salt River Mineral Bath in Clarendon is a prime example of what is happening across our country. At the mineral bath, we have all these temporary structures that present an eyesore.
It is high time that permits be required for any structure. Should this be done, we would not have so many shacks /informal settlements all over the country. .
