Don't flood farmlands with houses

While I agree that the farmers should not block alternative use of the former sugar cane lands, I do believe that building houses there does not constitute sustainable development.

Use the lands instead for planting other crops, such as ginger, Sea Island cotton, or pimento to make liqueurs. Help farmers through the Rural Agricultural Development Authority to form cooperatives to do so, and try to get them in the mainstream of society, earning regularly, paying taxes, getting loans to fix their homes, and later receiving pensions.

Develop policies with them for such things rather than embarrassing them now. What happens to Jamaica when our good agricultural lands are all used for housing? Ghettos tomorrow!

Is that the future the Government has for us?
