Petrojam scandal, costly and indecent!
THE EDITOR, Sir:
The latest twist to the Petrojam scandal is nothing short of disgraceful, and I am calling for taxpayers’ money, which was paid out to former management staff in what seems to be an indecent pay-off, to be returned forthwith.
The manner in which the scandalous affair has been handled by the management and board of Petrojam, which seems to have the endorsement of the attorney general and the prime minister, is most disappointing. One cannot help but question the competence and/or the intent of persons, placed in positions of trust, purporting to be negotiating on behalf of, and supposedly acting in the best interest of, the Jamaican taxpayers in this matter.
We view the signing of a non-disclosure agreement, which attempts to conceal the details of the indecent settlement (to benefit persons implicated by the auditor general) from the people, as adding insult to injury. This behaviour by the management of Petrojam flies in the face of transparency and good governance and should not be accepted by the people of Jamaica even if the prime minister thinks it is excusable or justified.
