The Gleaner is the nation’s newspaper
THE EDITOR, Sir:
Happy 185th anniversary to the nation’s newspaper. The Gleaner is a respected household name. This is an organisation that has taken leaps and bounds, grown into a giant, standing tall, stoutly and distinguished along the corridors of North and East streets.
You are indeed as relevant today as you were when you first begun. You have fed us through the ages with pages of business; sports; arts and education; careers; death announcements; automotives; classifieds. You modernised our eyes and minds and some of us read online. I will confess that I must have my Gleaner, especially on a Sunday.
My ear is tuned to hear the ‘Gleaner man’ from the break of day crying from afar, “Gleaner! Gleaner!” Thank you for moulding our minds.
Gleaner, you have batted well. Be reminded the innings has just begun!
