No resolve to cripple crime
THE EDITOR, Sir:
Until more politicians or their family members become statistics of the spiralling murder rate, Jamaica’s crime plan will be just a chimera or a “fleeting illusion to be pursued but never attained,” as a line from the song War says.
Crime is a profitable enterprise in Jamaica, and the head honchos of Crime Inc are au fait with that. So rules are entrenched for the perpetration and perpetuation of crime.
Never harm or kill a politician or any of their family members is the number one unwritten rule. The second rule is to never forget rule number one. If those two rules are adhered to, Crime Inc will be around in perpetuity.
The board of Crime Inc has an eclectic mix of directors. It includes politicians, the police, professionals, and private-sector personnel. The print and electronic media are also part of that mix. So, states of emergency and zones of special operations are nothing but placebos, concocted in the boardroom for gullible, law-abiding citizens.
At the annual general meeting, skewed statistics are presented to give the false impression that the ‘crime plan’ is working.
