An educator’s distress
THE EDITOR, Madam:
I am an educator at the secondary level. I teach at a school that is located in the western part of Jamaica. I am writing this letter with a high level of distress.
The Ministry of Education is asking for too much at this point. We all are going through this pandemic. An educator has to be thinking about all the other students that do not have any smart device to get on Zoom, Google Classroom, etc., or those with the device but cannot afford data. It pains the heart of a good educator.
From a mathematics perspective, if a child should really attend all his/her classes, it will cost approximately $2,000 per day. I think that Minister Karl Samuda and Prime Minister Andrew Holness need a reminder of our motto for education, ‘Every child can learn, every child must learn’.
With saying all of that, I would love for the school year to come to an end.
