Food for the Poor to help Jamaica ease IV fluids shortage
Charity group, Food for the Poor, is to hand over 16,000 packages of Intravenous (IV) fluids to the Government, to ease the shortage in the public health system.
In June, the Health Ministry had to turn to alternative sources as the regular supplier in the United States was being affected by the worldwide shortage.
The medical supplies are expected to be handed over to Health Minister Dr Fenton Ferguson tomorrow.
Last month, Jamaica received a shipment of 120,000 units of IV fluid.
Intravenous fluids are used for moderate to severe cases of dehydration, and may be used in a case where an individual has a very high sugar level.
