Expect delays when using Hellshire main road - NWA

Published:Saturday | August 30, 2014 | 6:18 PM

The National Works Agency (NWA) is alerting motorists who use the Hellshire main road in St Catherine to brace for delays as it begins construction of a detour route to bypass a defective bridge along that corridor.

The NWA says the bridge, which is located about 1 kilometre from the Braeton intersection, experienced a sub-surface failure earlier this year and that this has worsened in recent days.

Manager for communication and customer services at the NWA Stephen Shaw says construction of the detour route, which began today, is just part of the plans to replace the bridge.

The detour route is expected to be completed in three weeks after which the Hellshire main road will be close to allow for the bridge to be replaced.

The NWA is urging motorists to proceed with caution and observe the instructions of flag persons and posted warning signs during the period of construction.
