Road closures for Gleaner 180th 5K Run/Walk
In order to facilitate the staging of the 5K Run/Walk scheduled for Saturday, September 13, starting at 6:30 a.m. at The Gleaner Company along North Street, Kingston, and finishing at the intersection of East & North streets, the following traffic arrangements will be in effect before, during and after the race event.
Start at The Gleaner Company Limited on North Street and proceed easterly, turning left on to South Camp Road continuing on to Camp Road, left on to Caledonia Avenue then head south on Marescaux Road toward East Heroes Circle and proceed on to East Street to the finish.
Before the race:
North Street between Duke Street and South Camp Road will be closed to vehicular traffic between 5:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Traffic travelling along Duke Street wishing to turn right on to North Street will not be allowed to do so, but will continue along Duke Street to Heroes Circle where they will make a left turn towards West Heroes Circle via Slipe Road on their outward journey. This measure is to facilitate the start line pre- and post-race activities along North Street.
South Camp Road
South Camp Road between East Queen Street, Victoria Avenue, and Merrion Road, and all roads leading off will be closed to vehicular traffic. Vehicles travelling from East Queen Street or Victoria Avenue wishing to use South Camp Road will be denied access. Instead, vehicles will continue straight on either road or downtown via Duke Street to their outward journey.
Camp Road between Merrion Road and Tom Redcam Avenue, and all roads leading off will be closed to traffic between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Traffic travelling from Merrion Road wishing to use Camp Road will be denied access and instead will be diverted in front of the roundabout at Mobile Reserve to use Deneary Road or the upper section of Merrion Road, whichever is more suitable.
Vehicles travelling from Tom Redcam Avenue intending to use Camp Road will not be allowed, but will be diverted to Caledonia Avenue before the participants pass.
On the approach of the participants, vehicles travelling along Tom Redcam Avenue will be diverted at the junction of Arthur Wint Drive, and those travelling along Caledonia Crescent from Cross Roads square intending to use Camp Road will be diverted left along Tom Redcam Avenue.
Marescaux Road between Caledonia Avenue and South Heroes Circle at East Street will be closed to vehicular traffic between 6:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. Traffic travelling from Caledonia Avenue intending to use Marescaux Road will not be allowed. Motorists will be diverted to West Heroes Circle to use Torrington Road via Slipe Road towards Cross Roads on their outward journey.
Traffic travelling from Duke Street wishing to use Marescaux Road will not be allowed, but will be diverted to West Heroes Circle to use Torrington Road via Slipe Road towards Cross Roads on their outward journey.
East Street between South Heroes Circle and North Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from 5:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Jamaica Urban Transit Company buses, other buses and the general traffic that travel from the Cross Roads direction via Slipe Road that usually turn left on to Torrington Road, pass Little King Street, will not be allowed on to East Street. Instead, they will be diverted on to Little King Street towards North Street via upper King Street in the North Parade area.
Road closures will be removed except for those between South Heroes Circle and North Street along East Street and also along North Street between Duke Street and Central Avenue. This is to facilitate the post-race lyming, race presentations, and awards ceremony.
No Parking Areas
- North Street: Between Duke Street and South Camp Road.
- South Camp Road: Between East Queen Street and Merrion Road.
- Camp Road: Between Merrion Road and Tom Redcam Avenue.
- Marescaux Road: Between Caledonia Avenue and South Heroes Circle.
- East Street: Between South Heroes Circle and North Street.
