One of the milestones in Jamaica in 1985 was the formation of the American Women's Group (AWG), comprising mainly wives of United States diplomats and other expatriate workers in the island. Over the years, the group has expanded to include women from all foreign nations as well as Jamaicans. The AWG will celebrate its landmark anniversary in 2014-2015, starting this month.

Starting the AWG's 30-year milestone is businessman and philanthropist R. Danny Williams who will be the keynote speaker at its luncheon on Thursday, September 18, at the Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel. Williams' philanthropic achievements are legendary and his contribution towards restoring the glory days of Jamaica College is one example of his generosity.

Through the years, the AWG has expanded its consciousness to include charitable works to benefit mainly needy children in primary, high and tertiary schools in Kingston and St Andrew. The group also focuses on promoting friendship and unity among women in Jamaica, supporting charitable and social services in the community, and providing scholarships and encouraging education of the nation. The AWG is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation.
