Displaced downtown Kingston cabbies get backing from lobby group

Lobby group Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services says it will be meeting today to see what alternative arrangements can be made for taxi operators who park in the vicinity of the Ward Theatre.

The police carried out an operation on Tuesday to remove the operators.

The police say the operators are not authorised to be in that location.

However, president of the lobby group, Egeton Newman, maintains that the authorities have not provided any suitable alternatives for the taxi operators.

Newman says the facilities at Water Lane and at Pechon Street are inadequate.

He also says there are security concerns at these facilities.

Newman says proper arrangements must be made for the taxi operators before they can be relocated.
