WESTERN BUREAU:

The three police personnel charged by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) in connection to the death of St James construction worker, Mario Deane, are to appear in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court this morning.

Corporal Elaine Stewart, was charged with manslaughter while District Constable Marlon Grant and Woman District Constable Juliana Clevon have been charged with negligence.

The cops who worked at the Barnett Street Police Station were offered station bail on Tuesday - the same day they were charged.

Mario Deane died in hospital on August 6 from injuries he received from an alleged beating at the Barnett Street Police Station in Montego Bay, St James.

The police have maintained that Deane was beaten by cellmates but that has been disputed by his family.

Two inmates are now before the courts in relation to Deane’s death.
