Cops in Mario Deane case for court today

Published:Friday | October 3, 2014 | 10:04 AM

The three cops charged in connection with the death of Mario Deane are expected to return to court today.

Corporal Elaine Stewart, District Constable Marlon Grant and Woman District Constable Juliana Clevon are charged with manslaughter, attempting to pervert the course of justice and misconduct in a public office.

They last appeared in court last week Friday where they were each granted bail.

Mario Deane died in hospital on August 6 from injuries he received from an alleged beating at the Barnett Street Police Station in Montego Bay, St James.

The police have maintained that Deane was beaten by cell mates but that has been disputed by his family.

Two inmates are also before the courts in relation to Deane’s death.
