Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller is to lead the clean-up effort to control the spread of the chikungunya virus in her South West St Andrew constituency on Saturday.

She is expected to join community members in the Payne Land Division, along Spanish Town Road in clearing the area of debris and possible mosquito breeding sites.

The initiative will get underway at 7 a.m.

Prime Minister Simpson Miller says everyone has a responsibility to keep their surroundings clean of debris and other material which can serve as potential mosquito breeding sites.

Among the agencies participating in Saturday’s clean-up are the National Solid Waste Management Authority, the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency management and the local government ministry.
