A Coaster bus driver was killed this morning when his vehicle with numerous passengers aboard, crashed into the right front section of a loaded Epping gas tank truck on Long Lane in St Andrew.

Police investigators says 22 passengers including the girlfriend of the driver, had to be rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital and the University Hospital of the West Indies.

The driver, Junior Douglas, who died on the spot, had to be cut from the wreckage.

Police say speeding contributed to the crash and they are investigating reports that there was a brake failure as several passengers reported that the driver was unable to stop the bus at their request.

Douglas who owned the bus, was transporting the passengers from the border of St Andrew and St Mary to downtown Kingston, because his regular driver was late this morning.

As investigators processed the scene this morning, a second gas tank truck arrived on the scene to unload the fuel to take it to Port Antonio in Portland.
