Health Minister, Dr Fenton Ferguson, has ordered the managements of the South East Regional Health Authority and the Spanish Town Hospital to review their systems with the aim of improving efficiency and patient flow.

Ferguson gave the directive following a tour of the hospital today.

In a release this afternoon, he said measures to improve patient flow and customer service were discussed at a meeting at the hospital.

The health minister added that these measures will be further analysed and the appropriate action taken where necessary.

Today’s visit came days after a man died on the floor of the Spanish Town Hospital last week Wednesday.

That same day a 14-year-old schoolboy also died at the hospital.

The families of both patients complained that despite appeals for help their loved ones did not receive any medical attention.

The health minister said reports into the incidents have been completed and should be sent to him today.

He said these will be reviewed by the relevant technical officers in the health ministry.
