KINGSTON, Jamaica:

The Leader of Government Business in the Senate, Senator A.J. Nicholson, has joined in paying tribute to former Senate President, Syringa Marshall Burnett.

Marshall Burnett died in hospital last night.

Nicholson said as President of the Senate, Marshall Burnett brought a sense of serenity and thoughtfulness to the proceedings of the Upper House.

"There was no question of any raising of the decibels, for that would not be tolerated as she presided over the sittings," Nicholson said.

He said every member could be confident that his or her contribution would be received with respect as Marshall Burnett demanded no less.
