PM hails Syringa Marshall-Burnett as a nation builder
Former President of the Jamaican Senate Syringa Marshall-Burnett has been hailed by Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller as a nation builder and trail blazer.
Simpson Miller says as a health care professional, educator, parliamentarian and social activist Marshall-Burnett played a significant role in the country’s development and the advancement of women.
A former president of the Nurses Association of Jamaica, Marshall-Burnett died at the University Hospital of the West Indies last evening.
Simpson Miller says Marshall-Burnett raised the bar of parliamentary decorum while providing fair and respected leadership.
*This story had earlier said that Marshall-Burnett died following complications with the Chikungunya virus. The family has since said this was not so. We regret the error.
