Central St Catherine Member of Parliament, Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange, is to battle Western St Thomas MP, James Robertson for the post of deputy leader for the Jamaica Labour Party's Area Council Two.

Area Council Two comprises the parishes of St Catherine, St Mary, Portland, and St Thomas.

The nominations are being seen as efforts to counter the influence of supporters from the camps that supported Andrew Holness and Audley Shaw in last year’s bitter JLP leadership race.

Babsy Grange was nominated by Everald Warmington, the South Western St Catherine MP following a fiery debate over Gregory Mair's nomination of James Robertson.

Warmington had earlier raised concern that Mair was not in a position to recommend the appointment because his North East St Catherine constituency was not duly registered.

It was at this point that an absent West Portland MP Daryl Vaz sent an email nominating Robertson.

Both Vaz and Robertson supported Audley Shaw in last year's JLP leadership election.

The nomination was eventually accepted.

With Robertson accepting the nomination proposed by Daryl Vaz, our sources say Holness supporters rallied quickly to nominate veteran politician, 'Babsy' Grange and she accepted.
