Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller says she has cut travels for her and other members of the Cabinet as she tries to ensure that Ebola does not reach Jamaican shores.

She made the announcement at a meeting called with members of parliament today at Jamaica House.

The meeting was called to discuss the threat of Ebola and the current chikungunya outbreak.

Simpson Miller says travel for officials is being kept at a minimum.

Simpson miller outlined the preparations being made by Jamaica including the mobilising of resources and heightened surveillance.

She also disclosed that some health officials are to be trained by an undisclosed country as the country prepares to deal with Ebola.

Simpson Miller has urged MPs not to politicise the current health concerns.
