The Kiwanis Club of the Garden Parish continues to impact the children of St Ann in a positive manner with yet another contribution recently, following their summer involvement.

Last week, the club brought joy to dozens of students attending the Pimento Walk Basic School in Pimento Walk, near Ocho Rios, St Ann.

Club members Joyce Richards, Fiona James, and Eva Myers donated 50 packages of school items to the students, in encouraging them to do well in school.

"The items included exercise books, pencils, erasers and rulers and was a continuation of the support that the club has been offering to students in the parish," explained Myers.

Staff members and students were equally happy for the donation.

Prior to the start of the school year, the Kiwanis Club of the Garden Parish collaborated with its sister club in Discovery Bay and visiting clubs from the New York District in the United States (US), to assist children in St Ann.

The team from US, led by lieutenant governors Ann Torcivia and Nodia Chambers, carried six suitcases packed with school supplies. The supplies were then placed in backpacks and donated to children of workers at Jewel Runaway Bay Resort.

In addition, 30 students attending a summer camp at the resort benefited from a water-safety programme carried out by the visiting Kiwanians, while some 70 others from Discovery Bay were presented with school supplies.

The students also benefited from a wellness programme carried out by the visiting Kiwanians, with topics such as infectious disease control, pedestrian safety, water safety, dental hygiene and how to dial emergency numbers, being part of the course.

Among the many presenters at the wellness programme were Kathy Heim, Mark Marrazzo, Joe Corace, Nydia Corace, Lisa Santer, Nodia Chambers, Linda Cristiano, Rich Santer, Andrea Watson, Justin Underwood, Veronica Witherspoon and Robert Witherspoon, all from the New York District.
