The Health Minister, Dr Fenton Ferguson, will head a delegation to Cuba today for discussions aimed at getting assistance with Jamaica’s Ebola monitoring and response preparedness.

The meeting follows preliminary discussions between Prime Minister, Portia Simpson Miller, and Cuban President, Raul Castro.

Ferguson says following that discussion, he had initial talks with Cuba’s Ambassador to Jamaica, His Excellency Bernardo Guanche Hernandez, on a number of areas on which he would like to cooperate.

One of those areas is the training of local health personnel.

The talks with Cuba comes against the background of Jamaica’s heightened National Health Emergency Response to the prevailing chikungunya virus outbreak, and the threat posed by the Ebola Virus.
