PM opens high-level IMF conference in MoBay

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller has opened a high-level conference on growth being hosted by the finance ministry and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Montego Bay.



The conference dubbed 'Unlocking Growth in the Caribbean' is being held today and tomorrow.



The Director of the IMF’s Western Hemisphere Department, Alejandro Werner, has stated given the challenging outlook for Caribbean economies, the forum will be an opportunity to further dialogue on how to work toward stronger and inclusive growth in the region.



It is expected to examine key issues such as improving the reliability and efficiency of energy provision, a tax regime to encourage investment, and steps to strengthen the financial sector.



The IMF delegation to the conference will be headed by Werner and Deputy Managing Director of the Fund, Min Zhu.
