Jamaica can be a super power, Holness urges nation to think positive

Opposition Leader Andrew Holness said Jamaicans must not be afraid to believe that Jamaica can be a super power in the world.

He said Jamaicans must believe that once the country can get past the political fight and over poverty, through the use of education, it is possible to raise the profile of the nation and improve Jamaica’s rankings globally.

But he has admitted that it will take some time to get people to believe that things can get better.

Holness insists there needs to be a revolution in thinking and approach to finding solutions to the problems facing the nation.

He adds that energy security and education are key driving factors for the development of Jamaica and contends that his vision for Jamaica focuses less on politics and more on development and prosperity.

He says growth requires effort, thought and will, but he says he believes the current Government lacks the will.

Holness was speaking at the Outlook for the Future Public Forum, organised by the Jamaica National Building Society at the Hilton Midtown in Manhattan, USA, recently.
