The Jamaica Fire Brigade Secretaries Association celebrates Fire Safety Awareness Week alongside the rest of the Fire Brigade family under the theme: 'Communities in Action … Supporting Fire Prevention'.

The message of fire prevention synchronises with the colloquial expression 'prevention is better than cure' which is taught and reinforced daily to the public by members of our Fire Prevention and Public Relations Department. Individuals of all ages in schools, community organisations, citizens associations and church groups have received valuable information on fire safety and the role they must play in reducing incidents of fire.

As an association, we sincerely salute these noble and skilled professionals who put themselves in the paths of unpredictable risks in an effort to minimise loss of lives, injury to persons and damage to properties from fires, natural disasters, accidents and other emergencies.

This week, as they renew their commitment to fire safety, we thank these courageous first responders for their service and honour those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Your hard work and dedication have not gone unnoticed and we encourage you to continue demonstrating the highest level of professionalism and remain steadfast in serving the citizens of Jamaica, land we love.

We thank you for all that you have done in the past and what you will continue to do in observance of your mandate of 'Saving Lives, Protecting Properties'.

May you have a productive and fulfilling Fire Safety Awareness Week 2014.
