Official funeral for Syringa Marshall-Burnett

Marshall-Burnett... died on Friday, October 10.

The Government of Jamaica will accord an official funeral for the late former president of the Senate, Syringa Marshall-Burnett.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, November 6 at the University Chapel, University of the West Indies, Mona starting at 2:00 p.m.

Cremation will be at a later date.

The Office of the Prime Minister says condolence books have been opened at the University of the West Indies School of Nursing and the National Council for Senior Citizens on West King’s House Road.

Marshall-Burnett has been hailed for her contributions to health, education and politics.

She served as Jamaica’s eighth president of the Senate from 1995-2007.

In 1990, she was awarded the Order of Distinction in the rank of Commander in recognition of her contribution to the field of nursing.

The former Senator died on Friday, October 10.
