One killed in drive-by in PM’s stronghold
Tension is running high in sections of Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller's South West St Andrew constituency following a drive-by shooting that left one man dead and four others nursing gunshot wounds last Friday.
The dead man has been identified as 30-year-old Sheldon Brown, otherwise called 'Bebe', warehouse clerk of Cockburn Pen, Kingston 11.
The police report that about 8:45 p.m., Brown and the others were at a bar playing games when a car with several men aboard approached them.
The men aboard the car then brandished weapons and opened fire, hitting Brown and the other men before driving away.
The injured men were all taken to hospital where Brown was pronounced dead, two treated and released and the other three admitted in stable condition.
In the wake of the shooting, Police Commissioner Carl Williams vowed that every effort will be made to find the shooters and prevent the escalation of violence in the area.
"As per protocol, we have launched a high-level investigation into the matter and will leave no stone unturned. The investigative team will utilise all resources available and endeavour to work with the community to unearth evidence that will point the investigation into the direction that ensures the culprits are held liable for such a brutal act," said Williams.
The police commissioner declared that all that can be done will be done to ensure the security of the residents of the area, and to ensure their freedom to move about safely in their community.
