Clarendon triple murder may have been gang related

Published:Tuesday | November 4, 2014 | 9:12 AM

There are reports this morning that yesterday’s killing of three people in Clarendon could have been gang related.

The house shared by Kareen Brown and her sons, 21-year-old Shawn Mitchell and 17-year-old Shavion Mitchel, was shot up by gunmen.

The father of the deceased, Carl Mitchell, says he’s not surprised by yesterday’s attack.

He describes his son Shawn as a shady character and someone who is involved in gang activities.

The grief-stricken father also says his son was shot and injured recently by his cronies.

Mitchell further says he believes his elder son was the target of yesterday’s attack.

He is convinced that his other son and the mother of his children were casualties of Shawn's questionable life.

The police reported that all three family members were home at 7 o’clock in the morning, when men armed with guns kicked open a door to the premises and opened fire killing them.

Meanwhile, grief counselling is to continue today at Central High School in Clarendon where Shavion Mitchell was a student.

Vice-principal at Central High, Clive Reid, says the school community, and especially Shavion’s classmates, have been deeply affected by his death.

Reid says the school is doing all it can to provide the necessary support to grieving students and teachers.
