JAMAICA'S EBOLA PLAN OF ACTION
n Under the National Health Emergency Plan, Jamaica has activated the multi-agency Ebola Contingency Action Plan to deal with the country's preparedness and response to the deadly disease that has been deemed the worst global health emergencies in modern times.
n Dr Kevin Harvey, acting permanent secretary in the Ministry of Health, is Jamaica's lead technical official for the Ebola prevention and response action plan.
n Jamaica now has a travel ban on persons travelling directly or indirectly from or through Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, within 28 days of having departed those countries. There is also a 28-day quarantine of Jamaican residents coming from any of those countries.
n Strengthening the capacities at ports of entry is critical for early detection, which includes improving the scrutiny and assessment of persons entering the country by immigration and port health staff. The travel ban is critical to preventing entry of affected persons into the country.
