International UWI Tourism Conference For Montego Bay

Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM) in collaboration with Ryerson University of Canada will stage the University of the West Indies' (UWI) third International Tourism Conference at the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach Hotel in Montego Bay from November 9-11. It will be held under the theme: Tourism and Innovation: reinventing, revolutionising, transforming.

Executive director of MSBM Professor Densil Williams said he is "confident that the gathering of minds from this august body will find the discourses intense but rewarding, and that the area of inquiry will benefit greatly from the exchanges."

Keynote speaker for the conference will be Professor Dimitrios Buhalis, a strategic management and marketing expert with specialisation in information communication technology applications in the tourism, travel, hospitality and leisure industries. He is also deputy director of the International Centre for Tourism and Hospitality Research, Bournemouth University in England.

Other speakers include Dr Robertico Croes, chair, Department of the Tourism, Events and Attractions and associate director, the Dick Pope Sr Institute for Tourism Studies at Rosen College of Hospitality Management. Presentations will also be made by a broad range of faculty members from other international universities including from within the Caribbean, the United States and Canada.

The conference will provide

a forum for academics, government officials, tourism practitioners, professional associations and groups, graduate

students and civil society organisations to explore and understand thematic issues relating to tourism and innovation at all levels, and most important, to develop solutions for the tourism sector.
