The governing People's National Party (PNP) says its Integrity Commission has approved the candidacy of Dwayne Vaz for the upcoming by-election in the Central Westmoreland constituency.

On October 19, delegates in Central Westmoreland voted for Vaz to be the party’s standard bearer.

Vaz received 329 votes compared to Michael Erskine's 245.

The vacancy in the Central Westmoreland seat resulted from the death of former agriculture minister Roger Clarke in August.

Meanwhile, the PNP says the party’s Executive Committee has also received and accepted a report from the General Secretary which updated the committee on the status of the political organisation in the Constituency.
