n Laboratory confirmation of initial cases is necessary when an epidemic of the Ebola virus is suspected. Ebola detection can only be performed in symptomatic patients.

n The patient should have already been placed in the isolation area before the sample is taken. No sample should be taken from a patient in an emergency department.

n Jamaica has two fully equipped, dedicated Ebola treatment/isolation centres: at the National Chest Hospital, St Andrew, and the Cornwall Regional Hospital, St James.

n The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, United States, will be responsible for the testing of any of Jamaica?s Ebola cases, should any suspected case land on our soil. There is no suspected or confirmed case of Ebola in Jamaica.
