The Education Minister Ronnie Thwaites says all teachers should have now received the final tranche of their salary increase granted in 2007/2008.

The increase was aimed at bringing the earnings of public school teachers up to 80 per cent of that of their colleagues in the private sector and was being disbursed in tranches.

However, there had been delays in the disbursement of the final tranche as the Finance Ministry undertook an audit of the accounts of some schools.

Last night, the Education Minister said by now, the accounts of all teachers whose payments were outstanding should have been updated.

However, Thwaites acknowledges that there may be isolated cases where teachers accounts have not been updated for one reason or another.

This week teachers at Mannings School in Westmoreland staged a sit-in demanding the payment of their money.
