JDF Rewards scholars
The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Co-operative Credit Union, as part of its Treasure Chest Youth Scholarship Awards Programme, recently awarded 33 outstanding young achievers with close to $200,000 in scholarship money for having excelled in the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations, the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate and the Grade Six Achievement Test.
Guest speaker at the awards, television producer/presenter Tamara McKayle, implored the students to take full advantage of the scholarship assistance and use it as an aid on the path to achieving their dreams. She
stated that it was a similar
scholarship from the NCB Foundation as a student that
significantly helped her.
"I didn't pay attention to what I didn't have or allow myself to start comparisons with those around me, and I want you all to pledge to do the same. If you want to fulfil your dream, then you must run your race," she said.
Meanwhile, president of the scholarship programme, Lieutenant Colonel Radgh Mason, reminded the scholars that education is the soul of the society and the way forward. The Treasure Chest Youth Scholarship Awards Programme, which was established in 2007, has to date awarded approximately 147 scholarships to scholars whose parents save with the institution and are in need of financial assistance.
The Treasure Chest Youth Scholarship Awards Programme seeks to financially reward outstanding performers in the national primary and secondary exit examinations and provide assistance to children of needy members.
