A security guard in a dust mask prepares to chain an entrance to the Sovereign Centre in Kingston today. Fire broke out at the Island Grill shop in the shopping centre.

The Jamaica Fire Brigade says a fire at the Island Grill restaurant at the Sovereign Centre in Liguanea, St Andrew has been put out.

There have been no reports of injuries and a policeman says the building has been evacuated.

Speaking with The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre earlier, Emeleo Ebanks, the public relations officer of the Jamaica Fire Brigade, said the fire originated from an exhaust pipe at the restaurant.

The exhaust pipe, similar to the muffler in vehicles, conveys exhaust and fumes from the kitchen.

The Matilda's Corner Police told our news centre that they received a fire report about 20 minutes past nine.
