Orantes Moore Photo Local councillor Fitzroy Wilson; David Morrison, Canadian financier; Joylan Silvera, Member of Parliament for Western St Mary and Rollyn Bennett, president of Edgehill Homes, get ready to turn the soil to symbolise the start of construction of the first house.

Dozens of professionals from the north coast gathered in Huddersfield, St Mary, last Thursday for the launch of a new semi-luxury gated community, The Gates of Edgehill.

According to the project's major investor, Canadian financier David Morrison, in addition to delivering more than 300 attractive but affordable two- and three-bedroom properties, the company behind the development, Edgehill Homes, also plans to help regenerate the area by building a school close to the scheme.

Morrison, who played an integral role in launching the Angels Housing Scheme in St Catherine in the late 1990s, told The Gleaner: "The Gates of Edgehill will comprise more than 63 acres with a swimming pool, be gated and have a clubhouse where people can meet."

2019 FINISH DATE

"In the first phase of the

project, we will build 130-140 houses which should be finished in the next two years. Depending on the sales and how quickly people subscribe, the whole thing should be completed around 2019," he said.

"We've also committed CDN$100,000 to building a new school at the same time as this project because we know that if you're active in a community, it's important to give back to that community," Morrison said.

President of Edgehill Homes, developer Rollyn Bennett, added, "This project is something I've been planning for about 15 years. I really don't think St Mary has ever seen anything like this before. This parish needs jobs and economic growth and we're going to be employing upwards of 200 people on a weekly basis for the next three to four years."

The launch was also attended by the MP for Western St Mary, Jolyan Silvera, who described

the new scheme as 'absolutely fantastic' and praised the develo-pers for their futuristic approach to regeneration.
