Police Command to probe passenger removal from private buses

Published:Wednesday | November 26, 2014 | 3:29 PM

The Jamaica Association of Transport Owners and Operators (JATOO) has sought the intervention of the Police High Command claiming passengers are being removed from the busses of private operators.

According to JATOO the practice benefits the Jamaica Urban Transit Company.

JATOO president, Louis Barton, says rural operators such as those from St Thomas, St Mary and Spanish Town in St Catherine are the main ones being affected.

According to him, the issue stems from a disagreement over the boundaries of the Kingston Metropolitan Transport Region (KMTR).

He further says there are misinterpretations of the rules regarding setting down and picking up passengers in the KMTR.

Barton says representatives of JATOO and the Police High Command met yesterday and the issues were discussed.

He says the organisation was assured that the matter will be investigated.
