Spalding High School welcomed Parents’ Month 2014 with a prayer breakfast in the school’s auditorium under the theme ‘Building Circles of Involvement: Home, School And Community’.

Guest speaker, the Reverend Steve Hepburn, school resource officer and minister of the Contrivance New Testament Church in Manchester, had the congregation spellbound as he stressed the importance of parental involvement, especially at school.

Chairman of the school board, Valenton Wint, and Member of Parliament Audley Shaw both commended the school for this initiative.

Principal George Henry emphasised that the lack of proper parenting skills was one of the challenges at the school, as this not only affected students’ behaviour but also their academic performance.

Parent-Teacher Association executives Marcia Hayles, Avia McPherson and Dwight Palmer, along with staff members, Yvonne Myrie, dean of discipline; the Reverend Clement Clarke; pastors Errol Nelson and Milton Sergeant and the guidance department were all commended for planning and executing this event. Proceeds from the prayer breakfast will assist in planning the upcoming parenting seminars.
