The Vineyard Town division in South East St Andrew, last week paid tribute to entities which have contributed to improving the lives of the people in the division with a community service awards ceremony.

Councillor for the division, Andrew Swaby, who organised the awards function, was quick to point out that politics would not factor in the awards which he vowed would become an annual event.

"We will recognise the most active community-based organisations in the Vineyard Town division ... and not on the basis of a community's political allegiance ... but solely on the basis of work within any community within the division," declared Swaby.

"Because it is fitting and proper to recognise the role and contribution of these largely unsung organisations to the welfare of communities throughout the division. Beginning next year, we plan to recognise individuals working within community-based organisations who have made outstanding contributions to the community," added Swaby.

Among the 20 awardees were the Stadium Gardens Citizens' Association, The Vineyard Town Citizens' Association, Youths With Vision, McGregor United, Jacques Road Community Organisation, Nannyville Citizens' Association and the Nannyville Uprising Youth Action Club.
